Thai Entry: Etc

AIYAAAAA I very geram with the toolbar still missing. -.- The only buttons available are the check spelling button, the upload picture button (THANK GAWD) and the preview button. :( SHO SAD!

Anyway, other than the ones below, I also tried Thai food from restaurants which name I do not know (SORRY!) because I can't read Thai, and also various delicacies from the road-side stalls and Chinatown.

Before I begin babbling again, let me introduce to you this little guy over here:

Fairly small, but spicy enough to desensitize my tastebuds for the next few hours. This is - you could've guessed it - Thai chili padi. With every sip comes every blow. >:)

They have stalls inside the restaurants (yeah weird enough) which sell local snacks like that one up there. It's basically egg yolk and coconut paste wrapped in crunchy, thin paratha. One word: SWEET!

Typical seafood... except that the crabs are steamed and not marinated in any sauce whatsoever and the fish are BBQ-ed to perfection. Dip them into Thai chili padi and GAWDDDDD you'll enjoy to the max I assure you! :3

And this is Thai's Chinatown. More like Little Hong Kong actually.

When I saw those shop signs I was like AHHHHHH FINALLY SOME CHINESE WORDS EVEN THOUGH I'M A BANANA THIS TOWN DOESN'T FEEL SO FOREIGN TO ME ANYMORE. :'D

Wanton mee Thai version. The portion's so small that I finished it in two spoonfuls. -_____- Tastes okay la, the duck meat has lots of fat lor.

Glutinous rice balls in hot syrup and grass jelly (cincau) with brown sugar and the stall selling them. Gives that warm and fuzzy feeling. :) Unless if you order them in cold syrup lah.

Okay enough about Thai food the following three are brain-freezin' sundaes from Swensen's. I know Malaysia also got Swensen's but Swensen's in Thai is cheaper so yeah.

Top: Apple cranberry sorbet
Middle: Vanilla ice cream on banana with strawberry jam, whipped cream, cherry and wafer
Bottom: Cookies and cream ice cream with hot fudge and oreo cookies

That's all for now! <3

Thai Entry: Yong Lee Restaurant @ Sukhumvit Soi 15

This is only THAI ENTRY NUMBER 3 and I feel like giving up already. And btw there's something wrong with blogger because the middle alignment button with a few others are missing from the above toolbar as I'm blogging.

OH WELL let's just forget about it and move on with the third spicy entry - including the SPICIEST tom yum and the MOST UNDERCOOKED cockles I've ever eaten (which combination had me barfing in the mall toilet the very next day). :3

Fried fish in sticky sauce. Mildly spicy even though chili padi seeds are seen sprinkled everywhere in the gravy. So-so; the exterior is not as crunchy as what I've expected.

Hearty meaty combo of roasted duck, chicken and pork. REAAAAALLY BEEFY (even though there's no beef)! One plate like this has enough protein to feed 10 kids in those poverty-stricken countries.

Meh... they're just fried wantons. Nothing special. :|

Another vege stir-fry with pork. If you haven't notice yes Thai food has plenty of pork. :O Love the gravy though.

As if my earlier statement isn't stating the obvious enough, this is minced pork; yeah the one you have on your porridge sometimes. :)

And lo and behold, undercooked/near raw cockles! Yummy if you dip them in chili sauce, super fishy if you don't do so. I ate like one big bowl of them, painstakingly removing the black sand-like substance in the shell before shoving the orange flesh into that abyss of an appetite of mine.

As if the dish above isn't a challenge big enough for my stomach to process, I've had THREE bowls of this incredibly, extremely fiery tom yum goong in the next few minutes. The sensation was CRAAAAZEHHHH I tell you. Could barely taste anything after that, and the prawns HOMG were are abundant! If I had to choose between the mega shrimp in the Sorndaeng post below and the prawns in this bowl of tom yum goong, I'd choose them prawns here. SO JUICY AND SUCCULENT. :D

It's not very pricey, except for the cockles. The most: RM300 for 6 pax I guess? Food is served impressively fast, given that the kitchen is cramped and the number of workers isn't close to a double-digit.

So you could've guessed it, I was one happy girl that night. C: Oh btw, the restaurant's 103 years old if I'm not mistaken. The interior design is really rustic and old, with various antique items painting the walls with great age. And to think that the owner's capable of running the restaurant for 80-odd years (that's exactly how old he really is) man-handedly, it's a MUST-VISIT for those of you travelling to the Land of Smiles and wanting to try Thai Chinese cuisine. If you wanna know more about it, just have a chat with the owner (he's really friendly btw) and he'll be more-than-happy to show off all the newspaper cuttings on reviews on his restaurant.

Trust me, you'll definitely leave the restaurant smiling. :)

Thai Entry: Methavalai Sorndaeng Restaurant @ Ratchadamnoenklang Road

After a LOOOOOOOOONG day in the Grand Palace and its intricately studded temples, we finally had the chance to fill up our tummies with MORE good food. :)

Well the interior is more appropriate for kids (though most of its regular customers are senior citizens) if you find the earlier eat-out outlet R-rated. :3 Classy, great lighting, great music and a clean toilet - more than acceptable in one's culinary dictionary.

Pork satay (minus the skewer sticks) with white bread and condiments. Tear the meat into bits and sandwich them with the bread; twice as yummy! :P

Bottom left: Stir-fry eggplant with leafy greens and red chili
Top right: Pineapple fried rice

Both were recommended by dad's colleague, and are worth the try! :) I used to hate eggplants/brinjals but this juicy, succulent dish gave me a whole new perception of them. You can really taste the pineapple chunks in the mildly spicy fried rice, although it lacks variety in flavour.

Yes green curry again. It's practically more of a staple compared to rice.
.
Pandan chicken AGAIN. Except it's not wrapped in pandan leaves when served. Btw the sauce on the left tastes like satay sauce. :3 Much more fleshy compared to the one in the previous post.

The famous tom yum goong. One word: SPICEHHHHH!!! The soup's thick and sour, and literally burned my throat! Truly spicy!

SEE THAT BIG-ASS PRAWN OVER THERE? Now that's a bonus.

And this is dessert: coconut milk syrup with water chestnut and jack fruit. Tastes like the sai mi lo we have here. C: Simple, but cooling enough to put out that spiciness lingering in my mouth.

Highly recommended! Good service! The most authentic Thai food I've ever tasted - yet! :D

Thai Entry: Cabbages and Condoms @ Sukhumvit Road

Yep, it's Cabbages AND Condoms. With a name like that, the interior decor has to be equally jaw-dropping as well. These are...

statues...

made...

of...

condoms!

YES CONDOMS! :)

MULTI-COLOURED ONES! (omg why I sound so happy hahaha)

Top right: Popiah
Middle: Pork satay
There's nothing special about the popiah - just an average appetiser, but the pork satay is soft and easy to chew. Contains less fat meat also compared to the typical chicken satay here in Malaysia. There's this hot sauce you can dip them skewers in also, much richer in texture than Malaysia's.

Mix vegetables. Stir-fried of course. The sauce is sticky but not disgustingly sticky. Has tons of flavour because there're loads of veggies. :B

Kids will LOVE these deep-fried shrimp patties! You can really taste the big chunks of shrimps and they're not all starchy and chewy. :) Really good! Spicy also!

These are...

...not glutinous rice; they're chicken drumsticks wrapped in pandan; mum loves them to the max but they're just slightly above average to me. The flesh is warm and not too dry, but I can barely taste the pandan.

MY VERY FIRST GREEN CURRY! A must-try in any Thai restaurant! Tastes minty and slightly spicy, and you can choose the protein you wanna have it with: be it pork or chicken. (Y)

Yes it's the regular steamed fish. Except the oyster sauce is spicier than usual because of the chili padi. C: Me likey.

Oh btw this is Thai coconut (duh!). I can hardly scrape the flesh in it though. :( Definitely very cooling after the spicy feast.

And instead of sanitary hand-towels or Hack sweets or in this case, mints; they give condoms as their complimentary thing (more like souvenir) which my younger bro would had mistaken for a chewing gum - seriously.

A great meal overall, but the interior design has definitely more 'oomph' than what is served here. Serving's moderate, the atmosphere's most suitable if you wanna catch up with friends and have good food. :D It isn't super expensive either, less than 3000 baht (plus minus RM300) for all the aforementioned dishes (for 8 pax). The main purpose of the establishment of the restaurant is to curb unwanted pregnancy and the booming population of Thailand once upon a time, hence the condoms. A WHOLE LOT of them. :B
